I have never known what it felt like to be at a healthy weight. Since Primary 4, I was a permanent member of the school’s TAF (Trim and Fit) Club. Fitness tests were predictable — I could foresee the outcome before they even began. Alongside that, low self-esteem and a lack of confidence quietly shaped much of my life.
Over the years, people often warned me about the future I was heading towards if I didn’t take care of myself. But nothing changed—until mid-2023. Two colleagues mentioned, “You would look great if you slimmed down.” It was a simple, almost offhand comment, but something clicked. For the first time, a new possibility emerged: What if I could really do it?
Despite my typically logical, overthinking mindset, I made a quick decision—I signed up at a gym that gave me no excuse to back out. Sometimes, especially for those who tend to overanalyse, taking immediate action can lead to unexpected breakthroughs.
As I began this journey, I realised something profound: health is the one area of life we cannot outsource. You can hire a CEO to run your company, a helper for chores, or even a world-class chef to prepare your meals—but you cannot hire someone to exercise for you. Your health is your sole responsibility. In that regard, I became the Warrior of my own life.
But let me be honest—it wasn’t easy. I have always loved food, and being surrounded by fellow food lovers made this journey feel isolating at times. I knew I had to find a community, one that shared my goals. I began by making a simple promise to my future self: go to the gym three times a week. As an entrepreneur, I was fortunate to have the flexibility to train during off-peak hours, something I deeply appreciated. I also immersed myself in fitness content from dedicated YouTubers—individuals constantly pursuing excellence—which helped reinforce my mindset.
To build a strong foundation, I engaged a personal trainer. For those new to fitness, a good trainer is like a personal financial coach for your body—helping you set goals, create a structured plan, stay accountable, and make smart investments in your health for long-term success. I was able to drop from 108kg to 94kg in 14 months.
I experienced the power of visualisation and self-empowerment by simply honouring my words. To hold myself accountable, I declared my fitness commitment to those who truly cared about me. Bit by bit, I gained confidence, conquered what once seemed impossible, and redirected that energy to help my clients see the bigger picture: that health, relationships, and wealth are deeply intertwined.
So I ask you—is your health in a bull market (on the rise) or a bear market (in decline)? If it’s the latter, there is no better time than now to invest in yourself. Every effort, no matter how small, can yield powerful results.
You already have the conqueror within you—now it’s time to unleash it.
