Wee Seng was a regular in the Singapore Armed Forces before joining Unicorn.

He began his practice in 2005 with the belief that financial success is everyone’s birthright. It comes down to an individual’s choice—whether to take ownership of their finances and be responsible not just to themselves, but also to their family and society.

Over the past two decades, he has built a highly successful fee-based practice and was honored in 2018 as one of only three professionals, out of hundreds, in the firm’s history to earn the title of Certified Advanced Financial Planner.

In addition to his family wealth planning practice, Wee Seng is an avid wealth accumulator and investor in multiple businesses, role-modelling the very principles of financial ownership and long-term wealth building that he advocates to his investors.

Currently serving as Associate Director, Wee Seng leads the professional development and training programs.

For Wee Seng, true joy and fulfillment are not measured by material possessions or external achievements, but by personal growth and character development. He believes that true success lies in the ability to positively impact others, uphold integrity, and continuously evolve into a better version of oneself.

It’s not about what you possess, but who you become.

Kek Wee holds an Honours Degree in Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, graduated in 2001. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he advanced to the role of Audit Manager. A seasoned investor since 2001, Kek Wee decided to pursue his passion for wealth management, ultimately turning down a future opportunity to become an Audit Partner.

In 2007, he transitioned to a major local financial institution, joining the wealth management division and quickly becoming a key member of the investment committee. As a founding member of the investment committee, Kek Wee succeeded our Chairman, Patrick, in leading the Unicorn Investing Committee in 2015.

Currently serving as Associate Director, Kek Wee leads a team of 3 experts and 20 researchers and has been instrumental in more than tripling the firm’s Assets Under Advice/Management to $0.5 billion in ten years. He has also played a pivotal role in enhancing the firm’s portfolio management and securities selection capabilities.

When asked about the driving force behind his unwavering commitment, Kek Wee shares, “A promise made is a promise kept. I promised Unicorn investors that I would be a steward of their trust and wealth, and I live to honor that promise.”

Choon Kee joined Unicorn as an Accountant at its inception in 2011, after serving as Head of Accounts Payable with GroupM Singapore (a WPP subsidiary listed on the London Stock Exchange).

As a senior management team member, Choon Kee oversees the company’s finances. She gathers information, provides thorough assessments to the Executive Committee, and assists the Committee in decision-making by highlighting key issues and trends.

Choon Kee is also the guardian of Unicorn’s assets and an epitome of prudence in expenditure, enforcing relevant controls and ensuring that checks and balances are firmly in place. She has led Unicorn’s Accounts team in ensuring the smooth execution and processing of all activities, making certain that financial data received from all departments is promptly and accurately processed into useful information for the preparation of the company’s financial statements.

Beyond managing budgets and cash flow with precision, she is also adept at managing ad-hoc projects that implement processes to improve quality, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.

Kevin has a wealth of experience, accumulated over five decades in the finance industry. He has lived and worked in Singapore for over 35 years, first as the head of a British private bank and later taking the reins as Chief Executive Officer of a local financial institution before establishing Unicorn with the rest of the leadership team in 2011. He has an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Manchester.

It was with Unicorn that Kevin had had the great pleasure of fulfilling one of his life’s great ambitions: to build a truly great personal financial advisory company with authenticity at its heart. Throughout his years with Unicorn, he was extremely proud to be part of a practice that was built on sincere, lifelong relationships, tailor-making financial advice genuinely suited for each and every investor.

At the same time, he was realistic about his own hopes and expectations for the company and clear about his priorities in running the business. He says, “We knew we couldn’t be perfect in our foresight and advice, but we could control our attitude and behaviour: our commitment to looking after our investors diligently was and remains fundamental to our business.”

Asked what yardstick he would take in measuring the future success of the company, his answer is uncompromisingly firm, “We shall never measure our success just by our bottom line. The success of a financial advisory business like ours is best demonstrated by investors being genuinely well-served by trustworthy consultants”.

Hui Xin graduated with a business degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She went on to become a certified accountant – excelling in her ACCA exam, where she ranked 13th in Singapore and 37th worldwide.

Hui Xin embarked on a highly successful career and soon became a Regional Finance Manager at a renowned MNC. But in 2008, a meeting with Unicorn’s Chairman, Patrick Tan, proved to be enlightening.

She reflects, “I thought life was simply about working and climbing the corporate ladder”. After the meeting, Hui Xin discovered that the real route to success was quite different, yet surprisingly simple – she realised that real fulfilment came from helping others through self-discovery and development.

Robin is an exceptional professional – a highly experienced specialist who is skilled in investment risk management planning. Formerly a key investing committee member at a major local financial institution, Robin led a team that advised individual investors (with a total of S$150 million under management) through the financial crisis that spanned from 2007 to 2010 – during which his team’s total assets under advice continued to grow.

As MD at Unicorn, Robin likens his role to that of a parent.

“I hold the same hopes for Unicorn that I do for my son. I think it is very important for Unicorn to have a healthy balance sheet, so that it can deliver on its promises over the long term. But it is more important that Unicorn profits in a wholesome way – by contributing to society.

Unicorn is not a destination, but a journey. We do not merely want to create men of commercial success, but rather, to stand out as an organisation of value.

As a leader, it is imperative for me to expect more of myself than I do of our team members. That’s why I focus on grooming them for success – with “success” being defined as how many people’s lives have been made better, thanks to their interaction with Unicorn. After all, we are a private enterprise in the business of public service”.

Patrick is a passionate leader who cares about the people around him. He is also a student of life. Coming from humble family background, Patrick enjoys nature and the warm family ties prevalent during Singapore’s kampung communities. Patrick is a leader in many facets of his personal and professional life – in his family, the army, society, and in Unicorn.

Patrick was called to family wealth planning by his desire to provide for his family. This calling has evolved into a passion and unwavering commitment to serve society by providing authentic family wealth planning to investors and friends.

Certified Advanced Financial Planner (CAFP)

The CAFP designation represents a mark of distinction earned by a select few within our firm who have demonstrated exceptional technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and commitment to investor success.

Out of the hundreds of professionals trained over the years, only three have attained this rigorous certification—testament to the high standards and deep expertise required. CAFPs are often called upon by fellow practitioners across the firm to support key investor engagements, where they conduct in-depth financial diagnostics and develop tailor-made blueprints with solutions that are both precise and easy for investors to embrace.

In addition to their advisory role, CAFPs also lead the development of internal training curriculum, and set a strong example through the way they run their professional practices.

The CAFP designation is not an exam-based certification—it is a recognition earned through real, on-the-ground experience. It affirms those who have consistently walked alongside investors, helping them navigate complex financial challenges with clarity and care. More than a title, it’s a validation of meaningful impact, earned through mileage, not just modules.
